State Minister for Environment: Law enforcement will take a stricter stance to prevent renewed piracy in the Sundarbans State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam has stated that law enforcement agencies will maintain a stricter position to ensure that no one can resume piracy in the Sundarbans. He made these remarks while talking to reporters after a view-exchange meeting held on Saturday evening (September 26) at the conference room of the Khulna Circuit House. The meeting focused on various issues, including maintaining law and order, protecting biodiversity in the Sundarbans, stopping the illegal felling of timber and killing of wildlife, preventing illegal trafficking, and ensuring eco-friendly tourism. The State Minister said, "The Sundarbans has been reopened to the public starting September 1. Law enforcement agencies must be even more strict in ensuring the security of fishermen, bawalis (honey collectors/woodcutters), and tourists. Everyone must work together unitedly to ensure that no one can commit crimes in the forest." He added, "Recently, a large faction of the Sundarbans water pirates surrendered to the Coast Guard and the RAB. Law enforcement agencies will adopt an even stricter stance so that no one can dare to engage in piracy in the forest again." The State Minister also emphasized preventing anti-environment activities under the guise of tourism. He stated, "The Forest Department must play an effective role in ensuring that no one uses single-use polythene and one-time plastics in the Sundarbans under the pretext of tourism." Presided over by Khulna Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Hure Jannat, the meeting featured State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam as the chief guest. Discussions at the meeting covered maintaining law and order, protecting biodiversity, stopping illegal timber smuggling and wildlife poaching, implementing restrictions on fishing, regulating ecotourism, and ensuring eco-friendly behavior among tourists. Additionally, the topics of discouraging single-use plastics and polythene and increasing the use of concrete blocks as an alternative to bricks were also highlighted. The State Minister noted that alongside government initiatives, the Forest Department, law enforcement agencies, local communities, tourists, and all other stakeholders must work responsibly and in a coordinated manner to preserve the natural balance, biodiversity, and environment of the Sundarbans. Date: September 26, 2026 Location: Circuit House, Khulna Chhota.

Tourist Guide: Making Your Sundarbans Journey Memorable
Tourist Do’s: Your Checklist for Success
Be Prepared: Carry adequate dry food, drinking water, essential medicines, and a basic first aid kit.
Footwear Matters: Wear comfortable waterproof sandals or sneakers suitable for muddy trails and forest walks.
Identification: Always keep a copy of your National ID card (or Passport for foreigners) for forest department verification.
Seasonal Clothing: Bring warm clothes if you are traveling during the winter (November to February).
Stay Connected: Use a Teletalk SIM card, as it provides the most reliable network coverage deep inside the forest.
Respect and Listen: Follow your guide’s instructions strictly and be respectful toward the local communities.
Photography: Keep your camera ready but ensure the flash is turned off when photographing wildlife to avoid startling them.
Tourist Don’ts: Rules to Follow
No Harmful Gear: Do not carry firearms, traps, poisons, or any kind of hunting equipment. It is a strictly protected area.
Keep it Quiet: Avoid making loud noises, shouting, or using microphones/sound systems. Silence increases your chances of spotting a Tiger.
Respect Wildlife: Never attempt to feed, touch, or disturb any wild animals. Remember, you are a guest in their home.
Zero Littering: Do not throw plastic, polythene, or any trash into the forest or water. Keep all waste to be disposed of later in the ship’s bins.
Water Safety: Never attempt to swim or bathe in the rivers, canals, or the sea. The water is home to crocodiles and unpredictable currents.
